About Darin Feinstein

Darin Feinstein is the Founder of Core Scientific and a non-practicing attorney with vast experience in the investment banking and financial industries.

Mr. Feinstein recognized the significance of The Bitcoin Network’s innovation to accounting, the most important innovation to record-keeping in human history. The Bitcoin ledger is the first time on-chain immutability can be posted publicly without human trust risk on ledger or subsequent audit. In order to participate in that network, Mr. Feinstein purchased servers from vendors in China after visiting Wuhan, Shanghai and Beijing over an 18 month period in 2012 – 2014. Mr. Feinstein decided to run these servers in the USA. Mr. Feinstein realized the hosting facilities he had selected to host these machines in the USA were failing due to engineering that did not allow running high power compute at scale.  After much searching, Mr. Feinstein realized that if he wanted to run these machines at scale he would have to send the servers to overseas data centers.

The problem Mr. Feinstein was having with these HPC servers was not unique to Bitcoin, a similar problem also existed in 2014 for compute related to GPU’s that ran AI, rendering and other compute intense systems. While watching his initial investments into the high power computer server space and Bitcoin fail, due to problems he had as a customer at third-party hosting facilities Mr. Feinstein decided instead of shipping his equipment overseas he would build his own facility in the USA. This would require building the first large scale enterprise grade build-to-suit infrastructure company in the USA. After meeting with the Mayor and other people in Marble, North Carolina (population 400) Mr. Feinstein moved into a cabin with his family and started the process of building Core Scientific, NASDAQ $Corz.  Mr. Feinstein’s first employees for $Corz were AI and traditional data center employees, making Core Scientific the first truly enterprise grade build-to-suit data center company for AI and Bitcoin.
